The Early Works
Judith Weinshall Liberman
These five works – THE MAN, LANDSCAPE, BOAT MAN, STILL LIFE and THE BURNING BUSH – all date back to the early 1960s, when, as an adult, I first began to study art. The works show my attempt to learn as wide a variety of mediums as possible, so I could use whatever medium was most appropriate to express myself on any given subject. THE MAN was created by means of brush and ink. LANDSCAPE was one of my earliest watercolors, followed by BOAT MAN. The painting STILL LIFE was one of my first ventures into oil painting, and in THE BURNING BUSH I combined the use of oils with marble dust to create both the smooth and the rough texture of the work. I went on to learn a wide variety of other mediums and later invented some of my own.
